"Viscose Crepe Summer Dress" by Rimma Zolotarova

I’m very excited to share my latest brand ambassador project as this one is in a fabric that made my heart skip a beat the moment I saw it!

Fabric:

This Italian Blossomy print viscose crepe is absolutely stunning and even more beautiful in real life than a screen can convey! It has the most beautiful flowers in shades of pink and red, with some green leaves here and there, on a black background. The crepe fabric itself is just a pleasure to touch, to sew with, and to wear. It’s very fluid, drapes beautifully, doesn’t require a lining, presses well, doesn’t fray too much, and has a lovely texture. What more can I ask for? I washed it on a delicate cycle in cold water and air dried it, and I’ll be hand washing and hanging the finished garment to dry.

Pattern:

I decided to make a pattern that I’ve been looking at for a long time, the Laforme 0463 summer dress. I love the yoked skirt and the ruched shoulder details, as well as the offset button closure on the waistband. It’s giving me an 80s vibe and I’m here for it! I find that the ruched shoulder adds volume to the top half of the body and balances my pear-shaped figure in a perfect way.

I made size 46 which is for Bust of 92cm, Waist of 69-71cm and Hips of 100cm. I’m B92, W78 and H108, so I added 2cm on the side seams of the front and back pieces, the front and back waistband, the skirt yoke sides as well as sides of skirt pieces. This alteration gave me a perfect fit, although after my recent trip to NYC, I lost 2cm in the waist and hips, so I might need to resew the buttons for a closer fit (although let’s be real..

I’ll most likely gain them back within a couple of weeks at home 😂). I finished the dress with French seams everywhere and hand stitched the inner waistband for a clean finish. I made fabric-covered buttons, 1.5cm in diameter, using my beloved press. Once the buttons were sewn on, I noticed that the waistband folded away a bit at the edge, so I attached two tiny snaps to keep the waistband edge flat.

I also added a hidden snap at the bottom of the skirt yoke, just to make sure the skirt wouldn’t open too much on a windy day. I used a beautiful red velvet trim for the shoulder ties and I love this detail and how well it goes with the print.

I absolutely adore this dress and I think it’s going to stay as my favourite for a while! I was very lucky to have the chance to visit Elliott Berman Textiles in person recently and of course I had to wear this dress! I felt great in it and it was nice to receive a few compliments and questions on where I bought the dress from strangers on the street. I told the ladies that I made it myself and was asked if I take commissions because they loved it so much.

Thank you so much EBT for carrying such gorgeous and high-quality fabrics!
