When our brand ambassador Rimma Zolotarova first spotted this unique printed Italian linen on the Elliott Berman Textiles website, she immediately began envisioning a co-ord set. The print left a lasting impression—it was unlike anything she had ever owned. She was especially drawn to the earthy color palette: rich shades of brown, cream, and black, paired with a truly one-of-a-kind pattern.
KNOW-HOW: Rimma had the opportunity to bring her vision to life, starting with properly pre-treating the fabric. Following Sandra Betzina’s technique for linen, she pressed the material with the hottest iron before washing it in warm water and finishing with a spin in the dryer. This process, she noted, helps reduce future wrinkling by setting the fabric's finishing—and her results proved it. Even after wearing the final garments on a hot day for several hours, they remained nearly wrinkle-free.
For the co-ord set, Rimma selected the HelperSew Alexa pants pattern and paired it with the Grasser 947 shirt. Before cutting into the Italian linen, she created a test pair of the Alexa pants using linen from her fabric stash to perfect the fit. The wearable muslin turned out beautifully. Having made the Grasser shirt once before, she was confident in the fit and construction. She completed the shirt using French seams and accented it with coconut shell buttons that perfectly complemented the linen's tones.
Cutting took over four hours as she carefully matched the print—achieving near-perfect alignment. Even the smallest print shift on the pants was cleverly hidden by the untucked shirt.
To avoid wasting fabric, Rimma used the scraps to sew the intricate HelperSew Elio top, made of 17 pieces, and a matching scrunchie. Despite its size, the top was the most time-consuming piece, but she loved the final result—especially the shirred back and adjustable straps.
